They are associated with important moments in the private/family and collective/community life of Cypriots everywhere, such as: religious holidays, weddings, feasts, etc.

The roots of the dance in Greece can be traced back to around 1000 BC. The traditional dances in Greece show a great variety. Each region or village has its own dances, which differ from region to region or even from village to village. This difference of dances is due to reasons like climate, lifestyle of the inhabitants, wars and disasters and others.
